River Farm Wines is owned and operated by the Jones family who first purchased Marlborough land in the late 1800’s; long before anyone knew of its wine growing potential. Today the family has dedicated 330 acres of prime Marlborough terroir to grape production at three different sites.

The ability to source 100% estate grown fruit from three separate vineyard locations within the Awatere and Wairau sub regions gives River Farm the unique advantage of being able to create the best expression of what Marlborough has to offer. Each of the three vineyard sites bring distinctive flavours to the wines; crisp freshness and minerality from the Awatere Valley is balanced with ripe tropical flavours from the warmth of the Wairau Valley.

The Awatere River runs in shades of blue and silver through the Awatere Valley shaping not only the landscape but also
River Farm wines. The river is the life blood of River Farm and it is the alluvial soils created by the river bed that give
our wines their unique character.

The mountains that shelter the vineyards create warm dry conditions throughout the growing season that give rise to rich tropical flavours. The cooling effect from the Pacific Ocean helps moderate these temperatures extending the ripening period and thus locking in the flavours created by the sun, the soil and the river.

Great wine starts in the vineyard and it is the nurture given to the River Farm vines that allows us to create stunning wines with minimum intervention both in the growing of the grapes and in the wine making process. Nurture extends to every facet of River Farm; care of the land, care of the vines and care of the wine.

The Jones family of River Farm has a long history of farming in Marlborough and it is the hands-on approach working closely with a small, dedicated viticulture and winemaking team that ensures consistently stunning fruit, lovingly cared for from vine to wine. Celebrated local winemaker David Clouston uses his vast experience to preserve and enhance what nature has provided throughout the winemaking process.

River Farm Sauvignon Blanc
This has all the hallmarks of a quintessential Marlborough wine with concentrated passionfruit and gooseberry aromas interwoven with tropical fruits and mineral characters. The palate displays fresh acidity offering luscious passionfruit and gooseberry flavours with hints of lime and crushed herbs. It is all harmoniously balanced with a crisp lingering finish.
River Farm Pinot Gris
This delicious Pinot Gris is made in an off dry style expressing classic varietal aromas of stone fruit, pear and floral. The palate has mouthfilling flavours of spiced pears, honey and floral elements. The wine has a long and sustained finish with soft, rich and honeyed pear flavours.
River Farm Pinot Noir
This delicate Pinot Noir displays classic red berry, cherry and plum aromas along with gentle savoury complexity. The cherry and red berry flavours flow through to a juicy, sweet fruited palate. The favours are supported by soft tannins and combine to create a silky smooth finish.
